The SN-500 four component net radiation sensor consists of two longwave radiation sensors facing up and down, and two shortwave radiation sensors facing up and down, providing measurements of solar and surface input-output radiation. The SN-500 has scientific grade precision, SDI-12 output, and a compact appearance. The SN-500 sensor integrated into the ZL6 system by METER is easier to install and can be managed in the cloud for near real-time data acquisition.
As shown in the left figure, net radiation is the sum of net shortwave radiation and net longwave radiation. Net shortwave radiation is the difference between incident shortwave radiation (from the sun) and outgoing shortwave radiation (reflected from the ground). Net longwave radiation is the difference between incident longwave radiation (emitted by molecules in the atmosphere) and outgoing longwave radiation (emitted by elements on the Earth's surface). The typical flux over grassland in clear summer and radiation over snow in winter are shown in the figure. The typical summer noon flux is+650 W m ⁻ ², and in winter it is 0 W m ⁻ ².
